One month after work started on replacing the entire playing field at Safeco Field, the ballpark is once again sporting green grass. A 10-person crew from Country Green Turf Farm in Olympia, under the watchful eyes of head groundskeeper Bob Christofferson, spent much of the day Thursday laying the new sod in the infield.
The sod was harvested the night before and brought from Olympia to Seattle in giant 70-ft. long rolls. The job went so quickly and smoothly, the crew got a start on the next part of the project, rolling out the leftovers along the first base foul territory.
