From the P-I archives: Rare photos of Ken Griffey Jr.'s early career with Mariners

A week from today, former Seattle outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. will become the first player to enter the National Baseball Hall of Fame wearing a Mariners cap after being elected to the hall with a record-breaking 99.3 percent of the vote.

This week promises to be a big one for Mariners fans, who have waited 40 years for a Hall-of-Famer they could truly call their own. That's exactly what they'll get with the homegrown Griffey, who joined the organization as the first overall pick in the 1987 amateur draft and played in 1,700 games with the club until his retirement in 2010.
