TUKWILA, Wash. — On Monday afternoon at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Seattle Field Office, 75 individuals from 34 countries became United States citizens. One of them was a familiar u211634 — Mariners right-hander Félix Hernández.
After passing his citizenship interview — a three-part test including 10 questions on U.S. history and civics — on Monday morning, Hernández took the oath of allegiance and received his certificate of naturalization Monday afternoon. His wife, Sandra, was sworn in as a U.S. citizen last month.


For Hernández, a native of Valencia, Venezuela, it was an emotional day many years in the making.
