Hernandez retired the first seven U.S. batters he faced before giving up three straight singles to Jonathan Lucroy, Alex Bregman and Ian Kinsler to load the bases in the third. But Hernandez got Adam Jones -- a career .310 (9-for-29) hitter against him -- to ground into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.
In 25 starts for Seattle in 2016, Hernandez posted a 3.82 ERA, missing nearly two months with a calf strain. The ERA was his highest in 10 seasons, and his 7.2 strikeouts-per-nine innings was the lowest mark of his career.
