First baseman Evan White picked up his third Rawlings Gold Glove on Monday. Having spent the majority of the year with the High-A Modesto Nuts, this most recent one naturally carries the “minor league” denomination—to go along with two collegiate Gold Gloves during his time at the University of Kentucky.
Though those awards were received at lower levels, that isn’t to say White’s defense is anything short of what you’d expect from the sport’s best at the position.
“He’s a way above-average Major League defender right now,” said Andy McKay, Mariners Director of Player Development. “If he were to play every day in the big leagues, he would be getting Gold Glove votes.
