(WGME/SBG) — An aging lobster that was spared from being eaten at a Florida restaurant with the expectation that it would live out the rest of its days peacefully in the Maine State Aquarium has died in transit.
“Larry the Lobster,” as he came to be known, was a 15-pound crustacean that was believed to have survived more than 60 years in the Atlantic Ocean before he wound up at Tin Fish restaurant in Sunrise, Florida.
After a picture of the unusually large creature was shown on the local news, animal rights activists fought to save him, raising money to transport him to the aquarium in Maine.
