With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Edwin Díaz is closing in on a piece of Major League history. He earned his 54th save of the season in the Mariners 3–2 win over the Yankees on Sunday at Safeco Field and now ranks 5th in single-season Major League history. With his next save, Díaz will tie Eric Gagne (2003 with the Dodgers) and John Smoltz (2002 with the Braves) for 3rd-most saves in a season.
