Edgar Martinez’s u211611 was retired by the Mariners in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 45,388 at Safeco Field. Edgar joins his former teammate Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players to have their respective numbers retired by the club. Edgar’s u211611 and Junior’s u211624 will forever be honored at Safeco Field alongside Jackie Robinson’s u211642, which is retired throughout the Majors.
