MINNEAPOLIS -- The fourth time was the charm for the Mariners on Monday night at a soggy Target Field. After squandering leadoff doubles three times through the middle innings, Seattle finally made Minnesota pay in the eighth in a 1-0 win.
Seattle led off the third, fifth and sixth frames with doubles but was unable to get any runs across the plate against Twins right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who struck out seven over six scoreless innings.
But Dee Gordon's smash off the base of the left-field wall versus reliever Trevor Hildenberger was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Jean Segura.
