SEATTLE -- Mariners president Kevin Mather said that he wanted to hire a general manager who already had experience running a club and that goal appears close to fruition as former Angels GM Jerry Dipoto has reportedly been selected to be the replacement to Jack Zduriencik.
The Mariners haven't made any announcement, nor have they commented on the report, but ESPN.com said on Monday that Dipoto will be offered the job.
Dipoto, 47, has been at the forefront of the Mariners' search since Zduriencik was dismissed on Aug. 28. Dipoto not only has experience as a GM, he worked in the American League West the past 3 1/2 seasons before resigning from the Angels on July 1 after reported conflicts with long-time manager Mike Scioscia.
