The Mariners introduced Jerry Dipoto on Tuesday as the club's ninth general manager, and he called his newest position a "dream job."
The 47-year-old Dipoto was among the top choices for Mariners president Kevin Mather since Jack Zduriencik was dismissed on Aug. 28 after six years with the club.
"Since that day, I've worked almost nonstop full-time on this process, on this search," said Mather, who narrowed his list from 40 initial candidates to a handful of interviews before finally settling on Dipoto.
"One [candidate] stood out above all else," Mather said. "His experience, his philosophy regarding a long-term sustainable winning baseball team, his management style and his references throughout baseball and throughout the league.
