SEATTLE -- The Mariners will open a three-game Interleague set against the Dodgers on Friday night without Jean Segura, as the All-Star shortstop was placed on paternity leave prior to the series opener. Veteran infielder Gordon Beckham was called up from Triple-A Tacoma to fill his roster spot.
The move could open the door for Dee Gordon to play shortstop for the first time with the Mariners, since Robinson Cano is now back from his 80-game suspension and can handle second-base duties.
Gordon started in center field in Wednesday's 12-inning victory in Oakland for the first time since mid-May, and he hinted after the game that something different might be coming Friday.
