Over two weeks in the dog days of summer in 1990, Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. made history on two occasions.
After signing with the Mariners as a free agent on August 29, Griffey made his Mariners debut on August 31 vs. Kansas City, starting in left field alongside his son in center field. They became the first father-son duo to play together in the Major Leagues.
Two weeks later in Anaheim, father and son etched their names in the record books again.
After a walk to Harold Reynolds leading off the game, Griffey stepped to the plate in the top of the 1st inning and drove an 0–2 offering from Angels right-hander Kirk McCaskill over the fence in center field.
