Randy Johnson harnessed both power (8 strikeouts) and wildness (6 walks) in tossing the first no-hitter in Mariners history on June 2, 1990 against the Detroit Tigers at the Kingdome.
The Big Unit began the historic outing with a strikeout of Tigers leadoff batter Tony Phillips and ended it with a strikeout of Mike Heath. In between, he worked around 6 walks and a fielding error but held Detroit without a hit.
Johnson’s no-hitter marked his first of six consecutive wins as he went 11–8 with a 3.25 ERA over his final 23 starts of the season and was named to his first of 10 career All-Star Game appearances.
