Ken Griffey Jr. became the first player in club history to have his number retired when the Mariners retired his u211624 at all levels of the organization in a pre-game ceremony on August 6, 2016 at T-Mobile Park.
“I want to thank you guys for making me feel comfortable and allowing me to go out there and do what I always wanted to do, and that was play baseball,” Griffey said during the pre-game ceremony.
Prior to Junior, only five Mariners had worn u211624; Griffey wore u211624 for 13 seasons with Seattle, beginning with his debut in 1989 and culminating with his final season in 2010.
