On May 6, 1982 at the Kingdome, Gaylord Perry accomplished something that only 14 other players in Major League history had done to that point. In tossing a complete game in the Mariners 7–3 win over the Yankees, Perry recorded his 300th career win.
Perry, who won a Cy Young Award with Cleveland in 1972 and again with San Diego in 1978, at the time joined only Pete Alexander, John Clarkson, Pud Galvin, Lefty Grove, Walter Johnson, Tim Keefe, Christy Mathewson, Kid Nichols, Eddie Plank, Old Hoss Radbourn, Warren Spahn, Mickey Welch, Early Wynn and Cy Young in winning at least 300 games.
