Chicago Cubs acquire Mike Montgomery from Seattle Mariners

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs acquired Seattle Mariners lefty Mike Montgomery on Wednesday along with Triple-A pitcher Jordan Pries for Triple-A slugger Dan Vogelbach and Double-A pitcher Paul Blackburn, the team announced.

Montgomery, 27, immediately fills a need for the Cubs, who have been lacking a lefty reliever. He has also started two games this season and has 18 starts in his two-year career.

Lefties are hitting .164 off Montgomery in 2016, and he has a 2.34 ERA in 32 games, including 30 in relief.

The former first round pick of Kansas City was traded to Tampa Bay in the 2012 James Shields deal, when the Cubs' Joe Maddon was managing Tampa Bay.
