Charlie Furbush pitches a simulated game; Edwin Diaz likely unavailable for the Mariners on Saturday night

Charlie Furbush pitched a simulated game on Saturday morning as his seemingly never-ending recovery from shoulder issues continues. Furbush pitched to Shawn O’Malley, throwing about 30 pitches off the mound at Safeco Field before batting practice while manager Scott Servais, pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre and members of the Mariners athletic training staff watched closely.

“It looked pretty good,” Servais said. “He’s gotten to this point once before. He felt good coming out of it. How hard was he throwing? It’s not Major League game ready by any means, nor should it be. He hasn’t done it in a while.
