Cano on brink of 2,000 hits following 2 blasts

KANSAS CITY -- Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano homered in his first two at-bats on Tuesday against the Royals to pull within one hit of becoming the 14th player in Major League history to reach 2,000 hits within the first 11 seasons of a career.

Cano hit a solo homer in the first and a three-run shot in the third off Royals right-hander Jeremy Guthrie at Kauffman Stadium. He went 2-for-4 before being taken out in the sixth inning with the Mariners leading, 11-0.
