CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) -- With heat indexes reaching up to 115 degrees in eastern Iowa, CBS2/FOX28 tried a tasty experiment in the Broadcast Park parking lot.
We put out two trays of cookies - one inside a car, and one outside. Each tray had chocolate chip and sugar cookies.
As the day went on, the temperature of our cooking surfaces rose. By midday, the outside tray of cookies were cooking at nearly 100 degrees, which is probably higher on the black asphalt.
Inside the car, the temperature rose to levels too dangerous for anything living to be inside - 150 degrees, but our cookies were coming along nicely.
