BATAVIA, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Batavia man was arrested Monday after firefighters responding to an apartment fire found a dead cat in his oven.
Firefighters responded to the house on E. Main Street around 9:10 p.m. for a smoke alarm.
After investigating inside the apartment, which was filled with light smoke, firefighters found the cause of the smoke was a deceased cat located in the oven.
Police interviewed Darren Annovi, 42, and arrested him for aggravated cruelty to animals.
Annovi was ordered to be held on no bail in the Genesee County Jail.
