(KUTV) Around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, the phone lines at Valley Emergency Communications Center in Salt Lake County lit up with calls reporting an explosion in the sky.
Some of the callers said they believed the burning trail in the sky was a commercial jetliner that had blown apart somewhere over Utah. It sent the dispatch center into response mode for a large scale disaster -– until dispatchers could piece together what the reported plane crash actually was.
“We’ve got multiple calls of a large explosion that was seen in the air,” a VECC dispatcher told Unified Fire units on the radio.
