This series could be the final time Kyle “Ranger Killer” Seager plays baseball in Arlington.
He’s in the final year of his contract, with a team option that’s appeared increasingly unlikely as time, idiotic former executives and new acquisitions have taken their toll. This is his 10th season in the majors, making him officially eligible for MLB’s generous pension plan.
Cryptic hints aside, I don’t know if he’ll truly retire at the end of the year, but I do know this: Kyle Seager doesn’t owe baseball - or, and especially, the Mariners - anything. They drafted and signed him, offered him a reasonable payday, and surrounded him with a heady mixture of teammates low on talent and high on buffoonery.
