Paul Sewald had an incredible first season with the Mariners in 2021. The right-hander went 10–3 with 11 saves and a 3.06 ERA, striking out 104 batters in 62 relief appearances for Seattle.
He became just the 3rd Mariners pitcher in franchise history and the first in 39 years to tally at least 10 wins and 10 saves in a season, joining Enrique Romo (1978) and Bill Caudill (1982).
Sewald compiled 1.4 Wins Above Replacement (FanGraphs), 6th-most among American League relief pitchers from his season debut (May 16) through the end of 2021.
