Nelson Cruz put together an outstanding season in 2017, belting 39 home runs and driving in an American League-leading 199 RBI while batting .288.
The fact that he did so at the age of 36 is historic.
Cruz is tied with Kansas City’s Hal McRae, who led the AL with 133 RBI in 1982, as the 2nd-oldest player to lead the AL outright in RBI. Only Mariners legendary designated hitter Edgar Martinez has been older when leading the Junior Circuit outright in RBI. Edgar was 37 when he paced the AL with 145 RBI in 2000.
