Mariners Rumors: M's to trade for Marlins infielder Casey McGehee?

In this Mariners rumors and news update, the Seattle Mariners have emerged as a potential suitor for the services of sweet-swinging Miami Marlins infielder Casey McGehee.

Per Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "Seattle has been seeking a right-handed bat and struggling to find the right fit. The M's have been looking mostly at outfielders, such as Alex Rios, Josh Willingham, Marlon Byrd and others, and also have been talking to the Rays about Ben Zobrist. McGehee is mostly a first baseman/third baseman but can play the outfield."

McGehee has given Giancarlo Stanton very solid protection in the Marlins' starting lineup over the course of the team's 2014 campaign. While McGehee has limited power (just two home runs entering Tuesday's action), his .322 average and 56 RBIs makes him an intriguing upgrade possibility for a Mariners team in need of offensive help.

The Marlins have faded out of contention over the past few weeks, so the likelihood of a McGehee trade has risen since the beginning of July. However, the Mariners will have to be diligent and willing to compromise if they are going to pry the valuable 31-year-old McGehee out of South Florida.
