SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara women's tennis bid for a second-straight 3-all clinching win fell short as the Broncos were edged 4-3 by Gonzaga on Saturday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.
A day after the Broncos (8-6, 2-2 WCC) 4-3 win over Portland, the Broncos were in position to pull off another narrow win leading 3-2 after capturing the doubles point and singles victories by Velizara Fileva and JennaMarie Gordon. However, the Bulldogs (7-10, 1-3 WCC) came back to win the last two singles matches.
At No. 2, Jenna Sloan took down Jamie Schroer in three sets, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3, to knot the match up at 3-all.
