BERKELEY, Calif.– Despite being the first team to score on Cal in seven matches this season, Santa Clara women's soccer fell at the Golden Bears 2-1 Sunday afternoon on the road.
Cal's (7-0) staunch defense kept the Broncos (4-4) high-powered offense in check, allowing 11 shots and four on frame but not an extraordinary number of dangerous chances. The Bears offense managed eight shots with five on frame.
After Santa Clara had evened the score midway through the second period, Cal retook the lead in the 79th off a rebound. A shot from Emma Westin hit the crossbar and Natalie Hueston gathered before tapping in a shot in to make it a 2-1 game.
