Bill Carr joins Santa Clara after Payne departure

Santa Clara hired Bill Carr last Friday, April 15 as the replacement for JR Payne as the women’s basketball head coach. Carr coached five seasons at Point Loma Nazarene University, where the team won twenty or more games in three of the seasons. Photo courtesy: Lenny Ignelzi- AP.

Following the surprising departure of JR Payne, who left Santa Clara for the University of Colorado Boulder, Athletic Director Renee Baumgartner was faced with a difficult situation–finding a coach to lead the women’s basketball team.
