SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson and first baseman Jake Brodt were drafted by the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth and ninth rounds, respectively, of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft on Tuesday.
Wilson, the 231st overall pick in the draft, finished the 2018 season striking out 58 batters over 44 innings while posting a team-best 3.07 ERA to along with his 4-1 record and four saves, to earn All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention honors. Coming off Tommy John surgery in 2017, the six-foot-four hurler appeared in 16 games, starting in nine.
