SANTA CLARA, Calif. – It took five sets, but Santa Clara volleyball beat Portland 3-2 by scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12 on Thursday night to open a four-match homestand.
The Broncos (7-12, 3-4 WCC) got down early in the decisive fifth set 4-2 but rallied for seven consecutive points to get out on top 9-4. They would withstand a small run from the Pilots (9-9, 2-5 WCC) and closed things out.
Santa Clara hit .258 on the night while picking up 11 aces. Portland hit .250 with nine aces.
Julia Sangiacomo led all players with 17 kills while adding seven digs and four blocks.
