SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara baseball's Jacob Steffens was selected in the 29th round of the 2017 MLB Draft on Wednesday by the Chicago Cubs with the 885th pick.
This is the third straight year a Bronco pitcher has been selected in the MLB Draft. Steffens, a 2014 All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention honoree, appeared in 18 games for SCU with 15 starts and threw five complete games. The Phoenix, Arizona native went 4-7 overall with a save and posted an ERA of 4.56 in 102.2 innings pitched. The team's top starter, Steffens finished third in the WCC and tied for 33rd in the nation with 101 strikeouts.
