Sources: Santa Clara hires Sendek as new coach

Santa Clara has hired former Arizona State coach Herb Sendek to a six-year deal, sources told ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

Over a nine-year tenure with the Sun Devils, Sendek went 159-137, but was fired following the 2015 season.

Sendek would replace Kerry Keating, who spent nine years at Santa Clara but was fired after going 11-20 (7-11 West Coast Conference) this season. Keating went 139-159 in his time with the Broncos.

Santa Clara has not been to the NCAA tournament since a Steve Nash-led Broncos team advanced to the second round of the 1996 tournament.
