SANTA CLARA, Calif. – On the final day of the season, Santa Clara softball fell to No. 20 BYU 19-5 in five innings Saturday afternoon.
BYU (40-10, 12-0 WCC) exploded for 11 runs against Santa Clara (12-37, 4-11 WCC) starter Ciara Gonzales in the first inning behind nine hits, a walk, and two errors.
Gonzales (3-7), in her final collegiate start, got the loss in 2/3 of an inning. Of the 11 runs she allowed, just three were earned.
The Broncos got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the second off of Kerisa Viramontes who entered for starter McKenna Bull after the big first inning.
