SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball played a tight game against Cal Wednesday night at home in the final nonconference action of the year but fell 1-0.
With two down in the bottom of the seventh, Allyson Ferreira kept the Broncos (12-32) alive with a double and Eleni Spirakis followed with a hit-by-pitch to put the winning run on base but the bears (27-25) were able to strand the runners.
"I'm proud of the team," Santa Clara head coach Lisa Dodd said. "We hung in there against a good Pac-12 team and put together a little rally in the ninth.
