Softball Drops Rubber Match in Extras to LMU

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball went to extra innings in the rubber match of its three-game series with LMU but fell 11-7 in nine innings Sunday afternoon.

The Lions (30-17, 6-3 WCC) saw a three-run first inning lead evaporate in the bottom of the frame and trailed from the third inning to the sixth before breaking through with a four-run ninth.

Delanie Wisz hit what looked to be a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth but the wind knocked it down and turned it into a double. The bad break didn't hurt the Lions, as Wisz would come in to score two batters later on an RBI double by Desiree Moreno.
