Shieh, Men’s Golf In Second Place After Round One Of WCC Championship

DANVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Hayden Shieh fired a 5-under-par 67 in Monday's first round of the WCC Championship, leading the Santa Clara men's golf team to a second place finish after day one of the three-day tournament at the 6,783-yard, par-72 Blackhawk Country Club Lakeside Course in Danville, Calif.

Seven strokes separate the second place Broncos, who scored a 2-under 286, from the eighth place Gonzaga Bulldogs. Playing on their home course, Saint Mary's owns a 13-shot lead over Santa Clara entering Tuesday's second round.

"I'm not saying we can't win, but it's going to be very difficult," head coach Rob Miller said of the Gaels' home course advantage.
