The Santa Clara women's basketball program took a hit on Monday when it was announced that head coach JR Payne was leaving the Broncos for Colorado.
Payne, 38, led the Broncos to a 23-9 overall record and a birth in the WNIT this season, only her second year at the school. She was 34-27 in her two years at Santa Clara.Payne, who signed a five-year deal with Colorado, takes over a team that was 7-23 overall and just 2-16 in the Pac-12 Conference this season.A graduate of Saint Mary's, Payne spent five years as the coach at Southern Utah before turning around the Broncos.
