SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's soccer exploded for five goals, all from different players, including career firsts by Presten Manthey and Dylan Carrubba to bookend the scoring in the 5-1 win over San Jose State in a nonconference match on Friday at Stevens Stadium.
The Broncos (2-1) also got scores from Javier Ruiz Duran, Sam Agosti and Alan Camacho Soto to net the most goals since 2003 when they poured in six against George Washington.
Making his first career start as a Bronco, redshirt freshman Manthey opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a feed from Terrell Smith inside the box to calmly slott it past the flat-footed Spartan goalkeeper, Rodrigo Reyes-Zavalza.
