LOS ANGELES – After having the upper-hand for 110 minutes, No. 7 Santa Clara women's soccer was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the second round in penalty kicks 5-4 by North Carolina State after a 1-1 tie Friday night on the campus of UCLA.
The Broncos (17-3-2) dominated during the run of play, outshooting the Wolfpack (12-6-3) 25-3 with a 12-2 edge in shots on goal but were inches away all night. Santa Clara also drew an impressive 13 corner kicks while allowing three.
Both teams made their first four penalty kick attempts.
