SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Looking to close nonconference play on a six-match unbeaten streak, No. 6 Santa Clara women's soccer went on the road and topped UC Santa Barbara 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
Despite the Gauchos (7-4) creating some dangerous chances throughout and controlling stretches of the game, the Broncos (9-1-1) picked up their fifth shutout of the year to get off to their best start since 2001, the year they won the national title, when they began 14-1 and went 10-1 in nonconference action.
"We had a gritty performance today to cap-off a tough weekend against a very good UC Santa Barbara team," Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith said.
