WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– The 19th ranked Santa Clara women's soccer team fell at Wake Forest 2-1 Wednesday afternoon despite controlling the ball for much of the day.

The Demon Deacons (3-0) goalkeeper Mac Carmichael held off an onslaught of Broncos (1-2) shots, making eight saves on the day. Santa Clara was in the offensive end of the field most of the match and outshot Wake Forest 16-4 and 9-4 in shots on goal while also drawing 13 corner kicks while not surrendering any.

Down 2-0 in the 76th minute, Kelsey Turnbow sent a long pass to Kelcie Hedge who headed the ball down to Alex Loera just inside the left side of the box.
