RICHMOND, Va. – Santa Clara men's soccer battled VCU through 90 minutes of scoreless play in regulation but conceded the golden goal seven minutes into overtime and lost, 1-0, on Sunday night in a nonconference tilt.
"For the group to travel cross country and compete the way they did, I could not fault them. The team battled hard coming back after a lackluster performance on Friday. In general we did a good job containing a solid team in VCU," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.
An NCAA Tournament team last season, VCU (3-1) scored in the 97th minute when Ryo Shimazaki dribbled up the right side for 25 yards and blasted a shot that was punched out by Bronco goalkeeper Dakota Havlick.
