SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara men's and women's soccer programs had a historic Saturday.
Each team posted a victory, one on the road and one at home, and claimed the respective West Coast Conference title for the program and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
It marked the first time since 2006 that one school won both the men's and women's WCC crowns. In fact, the feat has occurred seven times in league history and Santa Clara has accomplished it all but once (Portland in 1992).
The Santa Clara women needed overtime to down Saint Mary's 2-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon with Alex Loera providing the goal in extra time.
