SAN DIEGO - Ryan McCarthy's two-run home run in the top of the seventh ignited a four run rally to lift Santa Clara baseball past UC San Diego 6-4 in the series opener on Thursday night.
Trailing 2-1 and with a runner on, McCarthy took an 0-2 offering from Noah Conlon over the right field wall at Triton Ballpark to give the Broncos a 3-2 lead.
Santa Clara (5-7) extended the lead to 5-2 pushing across two more runs in the inning on Michael O'Hara's RBI single and Jason Dicochea RBI grounder following a Dawson Brigman hit and a UCSD fielding error.
