MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Santa Clara baseball first baseman Jake Brodt was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week on Tuesday.
In game two of the season opening series against Boston College on Feb. 17, Brodt hit two grand slams in one inning, becoming just the seventh Division I player to accomplish the feat since the NCAA began keeping records in 1957. The senior from Huntington Beach, California, is the first to record the feat since T.J. Soto of Louisiana Tech did it against Western Kentucky in 2000.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
