PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Former Santa Clara men's golfer Hayden Shieh's solid second round had him contention to make the cut in his first-ever appearance in the U.S. Open.
Shieh fired a 2-under-par 69 on Friday to post a two-round total of 4-over 146, missing the cut by two strokes in the 119th edition of the event, which is being held at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The native of Fremont, California, bogeyed the first three holes to fall to 9-over after Thursday's opening-round 77, but he birdied Nos. 6 and 7 to start his push.
