SANTA CLARA, Calif. - With the team score knotted at 3-all, Giulia Hayer came up on top in a tightly contested match to clinch Santa Clara women's tennis' 4-3 win over Portland in a West Coast Conference bout on Friday.
Playing on court six, Hayer battled Angela Schuster to a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3) victory before being mobbed on the court by her teammates.
After dropping the doubles point, Santa Clara (8-5, 2-1 WCC) picked up the first two singles wins by JennaMarie Gordon and Jamie Schroer to take a 2-1 lead.
