SAN JOSE -- Soccer legend Brandi Chastain found out one year ago on her birthday that her son suffered from Crohn's disease.
Now Chastain, who turned 48 on Thursday, is sharing her situation to help others better understand an incurable intestinal disorder that affects about 1.6 million Americans."Finding out Jaden had Crohn's was a tough day," Chastain said in an educational video she released this week with global biopharmaceutical company AbbVie.Crohn's causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract according to the Mayo Clinic. It can cause abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition.Physicians haven't found a cure for the disease but say patients usually respond well to treatments that include limiting dairy products, eating low-fat foods and limiting fiber intake.
