CHICAGO -- Former Santa Clara University standout Brandi Chastain, who converted the penalty kick during a shootout that won the 1999 Women's World Cup, is among the first-time candidates for the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Chastain, a defender and midfielder who scored 30 goals in 192 international appearances from 1988-2004 famously pulled off her jersey to reveal her sports bra as she celebrated the winning kick. She won two World Cups and two gold medals. Heather Mitts, Jeff Cunningham, John O'Brien and Josh Wolff also are among the first-time candidates on the 28-player ballot announced Monday.
